Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save this rug; it was totally affected. Frequent visual inspection and annual cleaning can help reduce such a problem, as well as mothproofing. You can see a fossil contained in the marble; it's just a little bigger than a quarter in size. We thought it was pretty cool, to have a small piece of history on (in) your floor! The photo on top shows the whole floor when finished.
